The variety is a local folk selection and is not a modern breeding variety. It is currently being studied within the framework of agrobiodiversity conservation, although genetically different samples may be found in collections under this name.

The main morphological feature of the fruit of this variety is the dark orange color of the skin. The use of the variety is limited to the scope of traditional regional fruit growing in Italy; detailed agrotechnical characteristics and detailed quality indicators of the products are not presented in publications.
