The trees are local landraces that have grown for centuries in the high-altitude Gilgit-Baltistan region. They are the result of natural selection in harsh climatic conditions, rather than targeted scientific breeding, which is why a unified description of the plant's morphological traits is absent.

The fruits of these populations are usually small or medium-sized, characterized by high sweetness and tender flesh. They are traditionally used for fresh consumption, drying, and extracting oil from the seeds. The plants possess high winter hardiness and adaptability to the mountain climate.

In agronomic literature and registries of breeding achievements, this term does not have the status of a separate variety. In commercial practice, the name is used as a collective identifier for seedlings originating from seeds or cuttings of these mountain populations.
