Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety belongs to the group of so-called 'duracine' cherries with firm, juicy flesh. It is a local variety that developed through folk selection in the Italian regions of Val d'Illasi, Valpantena, and Valpolicella.

Harvesting of this variety usually takes place from late May to mid-July, depending on the altitude of the site. The fruits have a dark red color and are valued for their distinct taste qualities.

In horticulture, the variety is considered in the context of preserving regional biodiversity. Publications note the susceptibility of the fruits to cracking during heavy rainfall, as well as the historical connection of the variety with another local variety, Mora di Cazzano.
