The variety is historic; its origin remains unclear, although it is often mentioned in the context of Czech and German orchards. It belongs to the heart-shaped group, which is characterized by the soft flesh of the fruits.
The fruits are small in size, slightly wider than they are tall, with a height of about 1.9 cm and a width of about 2 cm. One side of the fruit may be slightly depressed, and the apex is usually bluntly ended. In historical practice, the trees were grown on vigorous rootstocks in the form of half-standard or standard trees.
The variety belongs to the early maturity group. It is valuable for biodiversity conservation, is often found in old orchards, and is used in fruit planting restoration programs.
