Løvskal is not a sweet cherry variety, but a local type of sour cherry known in Denmark since the 19th century. This form is not a distinct bred variety, but belongs to the Stevnsbær group, with studies showing no significant morphological differences between these clones.
The fruits of this type are small, very acidic, and have an intense flesh and juice coloration, making them suitable for industrial processing, particularly for the production of juices, wines, and jams. A characteristic feature is the high fruit detachment force, which allows for mechanical harvesting.
The trees possess good adaptability to various soil types; however, they require nitrogen fertilization to achieve maximum productivity.
