Brompton is a vigorous or semi-vigorous rootstock; trees grafted onto it reach a height of 4.5 meters or more. It possesses a well-developed root system with a large number of lateral roots, which ensures the stability of the tree.
The rootstock is suitable for cultivation on various types of soils, including poor ones. The onset of fruiting of trees grafted onto it occurs later than on other popular rootstocks, such as St. Julien A. A tendency for the rootstock to be affected by certain diseases is also noted.
