The rootstock was selected and classified by the East Malling Research station and belongs to the species Prunus domestica. It is used exclusively for grafting stone fruit varieties; grafted trees reach significant size and enter fruiting later than on dwarfing rootstocks.
The plant tolerates various types of soils well, including poor and heavy calcareous soils, and is resistant to waterlogging and low temperatures. The rootstock produces practically no root suckers and has good compatibility with most plum varieties, although in individual cases variability in affinity is noted.
