The variety is a chance seedling discovered in the mid-19th century in Germany. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and forms a high or broadly pyramidal crown, reaching a height of 3.5 to 6 meters. Bearing starts relatively late, but yields are high and regular.
The medium-sized fruits weighing 25–35 g have an oval or elliptical shape and dark blue skin with a pronounced waxy bloom. The flesh is yellow-green, juicy, and has good stone separation. The variety is self-fertile and has good resistance to diseases, including relative resistance to Plum pox virus.
The fruits are versatile in use: they are suitable for fresh consumption, culinary processing, and the production of alcoholic beverages. Due to the long history of propagation, there are various clones of the variety that differ slightly in ripening time and fruit size.
