The variety is part of the regional Apulian gene pool and belongs to the category of landrace varieties. It is actively used for research purposes for identification using molecular markers and for the assessment of genetic diversity within Italian germplasm collections.

The plant is characterized as self-compatible. The fruits have an early-mid maturity group, and yield in studies was estimated at no less than one kilogram of kernel per tree. The chemical composition of the fruits, including lipid, protein, and alpha-tocopherol content, was studied as part of a comparative analysis of the local gene pool.
