The Sultane tree is characterized by moderate vigor and reaches 4–5 meters at maturity. Flowering is early, occurring in February or March, which creates a risk of flower damage from late spring frosts. The harvest ripens in late September or October.

The fruits are of the 'paper shell' type with a soft hull that is easily broken by hand. The kernel has a sweet taste with hints of pistachio, white flesh, and brown skin. The variety shows cold hardiness and resistance to a number of fungal diseases, including scab and rust.

Data on the self-pollination ability of the variety is contradictory: some sources indicate self-fertility, while others suggest the need for cross-pollination with the Princesse or Marcona varieties. The variety is used in the food industry, confectionery, and as an ornamental plant for private gardens.
