In European pomology, Perico is classified as a mutant of the Gieser Wildeman pear variety. Unlike the original variety, it is characterized by different fruit parameters, in particular size. The plant is not self-fertile and requires the presence of pollinators in the orchard.
The purpose of the variety is presumably the same as that of the base variety Gieser Wildeman, which is traditionally used for culinary processing, for example, stewing. Due to the widespread use of the name "Perico" for various local crops in a number of countries, when identifying planting material, the risk of confusion with local wild species or cider apples should be taken into account.
