The variety was discovered in New Zealand in 1986. Genetically, it is a sport of the variety Doyenné du Comice, although there are hypotheses about a hybrid origin. The trees are self-incompatible and require the presence of pollinator varieties for crop formation.
The fruits have a round shape and characteristic uniform russeting, which gives them a golden-brown hue. The flesh is creamy white, very juicy and tender. The use of the fruits is primarily fresh, and they are also suitable for culinary processing.
The variety is characterized as difficult to grow on an industrial scale due to challenges with fruit set and tree growth characteristics. In unfavorable climatic conditions, obtaining uniform russeting of the fruits is difficult, which negatively affects the marketable appearance.
