Tepka is an ancient landrace population adapted to mountain conditions, including various forms, among them Pyrus nivalis and Pyrus communis. The trees are tall, reaching 12 meters, and form a dense rounded crown. The plants are characterized by low maintenance requirements and high tolerance to poor soils and harsh climatic conditions.

The fruits are small, rounded, greenish-yellow in color, turning a dark brown shade upon ripening. The flesh is yellowish-white, juicy, with a characteristic aroma. After harvest at the end of September, the fruits require post-harvest ripening for several weeks to reduce tannin levels. Tree fruiting is often irregular.
