The Tenra de São Jorge variety is a local cultivar preserved as a result of the long-term practices of Madeira farmers. The tree is included in the National Catalogue of Fruit Varieties of Portugal within the framework of a program for the identification and conservation of regional genetic resources.
The fruits of the variety are intended for local fresh consumption and are also used as a component in the production of traditional Madeiran cider. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant are absent in open sources, however, the variety is recognized as sufficiently uniform and stable.
1 jurisdiction
Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
