The variety «Iskra» was bred in Bulgaria at the Institute of Rose, Essential Oil and Medicinal Cultures in Kazanlak. It is one of the first breeding varieties created within the framework of programs for the improvement of Kazanlak oil-bearing rose populations.
The purpose of the variety is the industrial production of essential oil. The plant is distinguished by a stable essential oil content in the petals, averaging 0.047–0.055%. With proper agricultural practices, flower yield can reach 6500–8000 kg/ha.
