The Joan J variety is everbearing; fruiting begins from the end of July and continues until frost. The bush is medium-tall, usually reaching 1–1.5 m in height, but can grow up to 2 m on fertile soils.

The canes are vigorous, erect, completely devoid of thorns, and require tying to a trellis due to the large crop mass. The berries are large, weighing 5–8 g, sometimes up to 10–12 g, have a bright red or ruby color and a pronounced sweet-and-sour taste.

The plant tolerates summer heat well and exhibits sufficient resistance to diseases. The fruits are distinguished by their universal purpose and high transportability.
