The variety is a traditional British raspberry variety. In modern agronomy and phytopathology, it is known as a standard indicator plant used for identifying viruses via grafting, for example, leaf curl virus or black raspberry necrosis virus.

The plant is highly susceptible to many viral diseases, such as raspberry ringspot virus, which allows for the clear recording of infection symptoms. The variety is also susceptible to damage by the raspberry beetle.

Given its specific purpose, the variety is not considered a modern commercial product for mass berry production and does not have current agronomic descriptions characteristic of industrial varieties.
