The variety originates from the Kiuruvesi region in Finland and has been historically maintained by the Tikkanen family since the 19th century. Currently, it is officially registered as a conservation variety.
Like other Finnish landraces, the variety possesses good adaptation to the local climate. Since the variety is not a product of modern industrial breeding, standardized agronomic descriptors for it have not been defined.
