The Elect variety is the result of breeding work by the Saatzucht LFS Edelhof company in Austria. The variety was included in the official lists of registered varieties for agricultural use.
In agronomic research, the variety is primarily considered as genetic material. It gained prominence in breeding due to its traits that are passed on to progeny; in particular, it was used in the development of the Elias rye variety.
