Gotlandsråg is a local ancient population that has historically been used as initial material for breeding work. At present, the variety is maintained primarily as an object of genetic resources and an element of ethnographic projects for the support of traditional agriculture.
The variety possesses high genetic variability characteristic of non-selected populations. Detailed quantitative data, such as exact plant height, maturity group, or resistance indicators to modern diseases, are absent in open publications.
