The Poltavka variety was developed from Silybum marianum gene pool samples and entered into the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for distribution in Ukraine.

Research work on this variety is focused on determining optimal temperature regimes for analyzing seed germination energy and germination rate. Detailed morphological characteristics of the variety, such as exact height or resistance to diseases, are not provided in open sources.
