The Silyb variety was bred to obtain high-quality raw materials with an increased content of active substances. In the achenes, the silibinin content reaches about 2.5%, silicristin about 1.5%, and the total silymarin complex is about 2.0%.

The plant is an annual. The variety is characterized by strong prickliness of the stems and leaves. One of the production features is the uneven ripening of achenes in the heads and their tendency to shatter, which requires precise selection of harvest timing.
