The Bringelle Rond variety is a local traditional crop of Reunion Island. The name of the variety translates from Creole as "round eggplant," which corresponds to the rounded shape of its fruits.
The plant is sensitive to bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum, and for this reason, grafting onto more resistant wild forms, such as Bringellier marron, is often practiced during cultivation. The variety is also susceptible to fruit rot caused by the fungus Diaporthe vexans (Phomopsis vexans).
