Varieties of this group are characterized as early or mid-early with a growing period of 70 to 105 days. Plants can be compact with a height of 40–55 cm, or vigorous, reaching 60–90 cm in height.
The fruits have an elongated-cylindrical shape, a highly glossy dark purple surface, and a length of 20–30 cm. Fruit weight varies from 130 to 400 g. The flesh has a white or greenish-white color and a dense texture.
The varieties of the group are considered Italian heirlooms, formed as a result of folk selection in the Mediterranean region. The produce is suitable for frying, baking, stewing, grilling, canning, and drying.
