The variety «Salutamu» is a selection within the species Solanum torvum Sw., adapted for intensive vegetable production in the Mediterranean climate. The plant's primary purpose is use as a rootstock for eggplant cultivation.
The plant possesses pronounced tolerance to a wide spectrum of soil diseases, including nematodes of the species Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica, as well as fungal infections Fusarium spp., Verticillium spp., and corky root rot.
