The variety «Salutamu» is a selection within the species Solanum torvum Sw., adapted for intensive vegetable production in the Mediterranean climate. The plant's primary purpose is use as a rootstock for eggplant cultivation.

The plant possesses pronounced tolerance to a wide spectrum of soil diseases, including nematodes of the species Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica, as well as fungal infections Fusarium spp., Verticillium spp., and corky root rot. The use of this rootstock contributes to an increase in the productivity of grafted plants without a negative impact on fruit quality.
