Bafana is a mid-late table variety with a growing season of 100–110 days. The tubers have a long-oval shape, yellow skin and white flesh with shallow eyes. 7 to 12 tubers are formed per plant.
The variety contains 14.2–16.2% starch and belongs to culinary type BC. It is suitable for boiling, frying and baking, and is also considered promising for french fry production, as the flesh does not darken after cooking and maintains quality during long-term storage.
The variety is resistant to potato wart and golden cyst nematode, but moderately susceptible to late blight. Sensitivity to metribuzin is noted; tuber keeping quality is about 95%.
