The name Congo or Purple Congo is often associated with a group of purple varieties, which also includes Black Russian, Blue of Sweden, and Davis Purple.
Tubers are characterized by dark skin and purple flesh. According to its characteristics, the variety belongs to the mid-late group, possesses a moderate starch content and a specific taste. In publications relating to the Purple Congo variety type, yield is often described as low.
