The Dobrin variety was developed as part of a potato breeding program in Slovenia and officially registered in 1964. Currently, the variety is maintained at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia as part of the gene bank, preserved as micro-tubers in the laboratory and in field collections.
Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety, such as maturity group, morphological traits, and quality indicators, are not provided in publications. The variety is used in phytopathological studies as a susceptible control sample for testing pathogen virulence, including Phytophthora infestans.
