The variety is intended primarily for starch production. In scientific research, it often acts as a model organism for studying tuber biochemistry, in particular for the analysis of proteinase inhibitors.

The plant possesses resistance to potato cyst nematode pathotypes Ro1–4 and is being studied for resistance to early blight. The variety's pedigree includes the wild species Solanum vernei, which provides increased protection against nematodes.
