The variety is an ancient folk type of potato preserved as a genetic heritage of Scandinavia. Due to its wide distribution in the past, it has many regional names, including Asklanda Röd, Farbror Frans and Västerbottens Röd, as well as the historical Icelandic name Rauðar íslenskar.
The tubers are round-oval, often flattened in shape. The skin is red-violet in color, the flesh is light yellow, sometimes with a reddish tint, with deep-set eyes. The variety is mid-late, has moderate yield and small tubers; after boiling, the flesh becomes mealy.
