The Blå Mandel variety was historically widespread in the northern provinces of Sweden, such as Jämtland, Västerbotten, Norrbotten, and Lapland, until the end of the 19th century. It has many synonyms, including Långröda, Norsk Fjällpotatis, Sara-Kaja, Lång blå, and Västerbottens röda.
Tubers of this variety have an elongated shape, characteristic of the 'mandel' group. The variety is maintained in the NordGen genetic resource bank; however, detailed agronomic characteristics, such as plant height or maturity group, are not specified in the documentation.
