The potato variety Maja was developed as part of the breeding program of the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia in the post-war period and up until the end of the 1990s. The variety is part of the institute's historical breeding heritage.
At the moment, the variety is not among the current and actively sold ones. It has been taken out of production and displaced from modern practice due to insufficient disease resistance compared to modern hybrids.
