The variety appeared in 1860 in the village of Opperdoes. In accordance with the PDO status, only potatoes grown within a 1 km radius of this village on specific sandy-clay soils may be sold under this name. The growing period is 10–12 weeks.
The tubers have a round-oval shape with deep-set eyes. The skin is delicate, and the flesh is yellow-white. The variety is characterized by low starch content and waxy texture. Due to the delicacy of the tubers, planting and harvesting are traditionally carried out manually, and crop rotation is limited to growing in the same location no more than once every 3 years.
