The variety has a long history of cultivation and was historically widespread in the Swedish province of Dalarna. The tubers are characterized by a round shape, red skin, and white flesh.
It belongs to autumn and winter potato varieties. In cooking, it is valued for its moderate mealiness and ability to hold its shape during boiling; it is traditionally recommended for cooking in its skin and for bread baking.
The variety is considered a primitive landrace type and is susceptible to certain diseases, such as late blight and scab. Currently, it is classified as a rare variety, preserved primarily by enthusiasts and in gene banks.
