The Spīdola variety was historically grown in the Skrīveri region (Latvia) and was subjected to breeding improvement. There is a hypothesis that it was obtained using physical or chemical mutagenesis, which the breeder actively practiced in his work.
Scientific publications and registers lack detailed morphological descriptions of the plant and detailed agronomic indicators of resistance to diseases or lodging. The variety was included in the official Latvian plant variety catalogue in 2001.
