The variety is used in agriculture as a fodder crop and green manure. The plant is capable of improving soil conditions and suppressing the reproduction of certain species of root-knot nematodes, including Meloidogyne chitwoodi race 1 and 2.

The variety is susceptible to sorghum mosaic virus and maize dwarf mosaic virus. When infected with these pathogens, characteristic signs in the form of mosaic or red spotting may appear on the plant leaves.
