The variety belongs to the semi-savoy type, sometimes classified as smooth-leaf. Plants are large, fast-growing, and have a semi-upright habit. The variety was developed specifically for industrial use, including freezing and canning, and was often used as a standard in trials.
The plant is prone to rapid bolting with rising air temperatures. The variety possesses resistance to downy mildew, however, 1990s studies note its high susceptibility to white rust.
