The Grassland Pitau variety is characterized by medium or large-sized leaves and the presence of a small number of stolons. Genetically, the plant originates from the Grasslands Huia variety and a clover population from Spain.
The plant contains a significant amount of cyanogenic glycosides, which is why it is often used in scientific research as a model object. The variety is intended for forage purposes and is used in pasture-based livestock farming; it has been studied in the context of seed yield and response to various grazing regimes.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
