Triticum aestivum L. Bread wheat · Agricultural · bred by Plant Breeding International Cambridge Ltd (GB)

Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is a short-stemmed plant with thin straw walls. The ear is characterized by a weak waxy bloom, and its density varies from semi-lax to semi-dense. The grain has a red color, a round shape, and average length and width indicators.

In the 1980s, the variety became widespread as a high-quality bread-making wheat. Due to its adaptive properties, Avalon often serves as a reference population in genetic studies for mapping productivity and resistance traits in breeding experiments.
