The winter soft wheat variety Calif was obtained as a result of breeding work with the crossing combination (Caribo × Tadorna) × (Probus × Paladin). In official records of the 1980s, the breeder of the variety is listed as Toni Heidenreich from the FRG.
The variety was in official variety lists, specifically in Denmark, from 1983 until the early 2000s. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant and qualitative indicators of the grain are not presented in available sources.
