The Carlotta Strampelli variety was created at the beginning of the 20th century as a result of the hybridization of the Rieti and Massy varieties. It was named in honor of Carlotta Parisani Strampelli, who assisted the breeder in his scientific work. The variety represented one of the early achievements of the breeding program to create high-yielding types.
The plant possessed resistance to lodging and rust. At the same time, the variety demonstrated sensitivity to dry and hot summer conditions. Currently, Carlotta Strampelli is a historical breeding material and is not used in mass commercial agriculture.
