The soft wheat variety Caton was bred by a French breeding company and was used as a high-yielding variety during the development of intensive agriculture in France in the 1970s–1980s. Given that the variety is historical, current detailed agronomic characteristics are not provided.

There is a possibility of confusion with the spring soft wheat variety Katun of Russian breeding, which is an independent variety and has no relation to the French Caton.
