Crofter is the result of breeding work crossing the Riband and Moulin varieties. The variety is mentioned in scientific studies as winter wheat that underwent trials in Great Britain in the 1990s.
In the British nabim classification system, Crofter grain is classified in group 3. This produce is traditionally used for the production of biscuits, confectionery, and purposes other than bread-making.
