The Rialto variety is a winter soft wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) containing approximately 250 million base pairs of rye genetic material. The variety's pedigree shares common features with the British varieties Riband, Beaver, and Haven.
The plant possesses moderate resistance to lodging and is characterized by susceptibility to yellow rust and brown rust. The grain of the variety belongs to quality group 2 and is prone to the phenomenon of premature alpha-amylase (PMAA) activity, which can cause a decrease in the falling number even without visible sprouting.
Currently, the variety is more often used in scientific research as a reference sample or a parental form for the creation of mapping populations due to its genetic representativeness.
