The variety is classified as winter soft wheat. During its period of popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the variety was included in a number of European variety lists and registers.
The plant demonstrated high yield, however, in terms of grain quality characteristics and baking properties, it was inferior to other varieties of that time, which hindered obtaining a premium rating upon sale.
In modern breeding programs, Talon is used as source material (parental form) for developing new varieties, appearing in their genealogy. Currently, the variety has been excluded from official lists of cultivated crops.
