The soft wheat variety Tinos is known as material for conducting scientific research, in particular in the field of genetic transformation. The variety is also involved in the study of the composition of epitopes associated with celiac disease in various wheat lines.
In a breeding context, the variety is used to study resistance to diseases, including Fusarium head blight. In particular, it was used in the creation of breeding lines demonstrating resistance to the accumulation of the mycotoxin DON.
