The variety is the result of breeding work in Mexico with the participation of the CIMMYT center. It possesses distinct resistance to leaf (brown) rust, which is provided by the presence of specific genes Lr1, Lr13, Lr17 and Lr34. The Lr34 gene provides the variety with durable 'adult plant resistance'.
In modern breeding, the variety is primarily considered an important genetic source for developing new wheat lines. Precise morphological characteristics of the plant and grain quality indicators are absent in open publications.
