The variety was obtained by crossing the Bluebird and Inia 66 lines. It became an important achievement of 1970s breeding and served as a genetic basis for the development of many other modern wheat varieties worldwide.
The plant belongs to semi-dwarf varieties, which provides it with increased resistance to lodging. The variety possesses resistance to leaf rust due to the presence of Lr13 and Lr34 genes, which provide long-term protection of the crop against pathogen infection.
