The Vergina variety is a bread wheat bred at the Cereal Institute in Thessaloniki. It is widely cultivated in Greece and often serves as a subject of scientific research, including the study of in vitro anther culture methods for obtaining haploids.
The variety is adapted to Mediterranean conditions and does not genetically carry the 1BL.1RS translocation. Within the national wheat collection, grain quality, lodging resistance, and rust resistance indicators are monitored, but specific quantitative values for these traits are not publicly available.
