The Peleo variety belongs to the group of short-statured varieties with a stem height of less than 65 cm, which ensures high resistance to lodging. The genetic material of this variety has been actively used in breeding research, including crosses with other Italian lines to develop new genotypes.

The plant serves as an object of study in work to increase resistance to rust and powdery mildew through the introgression of chromosomal fragments. The grain of the variety possesses characteristics typical of the Triticum durum species, including high vitreousness and high protein content, which allows it to be used in the production of pasta.
